Abstract

Background: Simple renal cysts are usually asymptomatic and do not require treatment. With symptomatic renal cysts, surgical treatment is often associated with complications. Subsequently, less invasive methods of treatment for simple renal cysts are increasingly chosen, including cyst aspiration. with sclerosing agents under ultrasound guidance.

Methods: The retrospective case - series study was carried out at the Urogenital Vascular Intervention Unit, Department of Advanced Kidney Stone Surgery, Binh Dan Hospital. Patients had renal cyst aspiration with NBCA sclerosing agent combined with iodine oil under the guidance of ultrasound from January 2019 to April 2022 and were monitored for clinical results, residual cysts size, and complications after the procedure.

Results: 42 Bosniak I renal cyst patients were included in the study with 24 men and 18 women. The mean follow - up time was 18.7 ± 6.5 months. There were no cases of complications after aspiration. All patients were discharged on the same day, 40/42 patients without recurrence of renal cysts. There were two cases of recurrence, 1 cas was aspirated for the second time, 1 cas was laparoscopic renal cysts deroofing.

Conclusions: The method of renal cyst aspiration with NBCA sclerotherapy under ultrasound guidance is highly effective, safe, and has low recurrence rates in symptom control of low back pain and reduction of renal cyst volume
