Abstract
Objective: To investigate histopathological features of digestive tract’s lesions in endoscopic submuscosal dissection at Thainguyen National Hospital. Materials and method: A retrospective descriptive study was conducted on 45 patients with digestive tract’s lesions treated by endoscopic submucosal dissection at Thai Nguyen National Hospital from March 2024 to March 2026.
Results: The average age of the patients was 62.6 ± 9.4; 60% of the patients were male. The most common locations were: antrum (17.8%), sigmoid colon (22.2%), and rectum (20%). Macroscopic features: The lesions had an average diameter of 28.3 ± 9.1 mm; 91.1% of them were polyp; 100% of them had well-defined borders, 57.8% of them had smooth surfaces. Microscopic features: 51.1% of the lesions were tubular adenoma, 8.9% of them were adenocarcinomas; low-grade dysplasia accounted for 48.9%, while high-grade dysplasia accounted for 31.1%; 95,6% of the lesions were non-invasive, while 4.4% of them had submucosal invasion. Histopathology of biopsy samples and submucosal dissection specimens showed high diagnostic agreement.
Conclusion: Most of lesions resected submucosally via endoscopy were gastrointestinal polyps. Histopathology: 80% of lesions were adenoma, 8,9% of them were adenocarcinomas; 80% of them had dysplasia; 100% of the lesions were localized in the mucosal or submucosal layers.
