Abstract
Objective: To evaluate factors affecting the quality of life in hospitalized patients with atrial fibrillation and the impact of quality of life on major cardiovascular events in patients with atrial fibrillation.
Methods: cross-sectional study design, conducted on 99 patients with atrial fibrillation treated at the Department of Cardiology - Hue Central Hospital from April 2023 to April 2024. Patients were follow-up for cardiovascular events for 6 months.
Results: The group of patients with worsen quality of life (AFEQT ≤ 80) accounted for 57.6%. Multivariate linear regression analysis for factors affecting AFEQT score showed that female gender (estimate -4.89, 95% confidence interval: -9.59 to -0.19), severe heart failure (estimate -7.5, 95% confidence interval: -12.86 to -2.28), and faster heart rate (estimate 1.40, 95% confidence interval: -2.77 to -0.02) were independent risk factors for reduced quality of life in patients with atrial fibrillation (p < 0.05). The lower quality of life group (AFEQT ≤ 80) was associated with an increased risk of cardiovascular events during follow-up, compared with the better quality of life group (AFEQT > 80) (OR: 3.63, 95% confidence interval: 1.03 – 12.78, p < 0.05).
Conclusion: Quality of life was affected by several patient factors, including female sex, high heart rate, and severe heart failure. In addition, low quality of life was an independent risk factor for the occurrence of cardiovascular events in patients with atrial fibrillation.
