Abstract

Inverted gastric diverticula (IGD) is a condition characterized by a diverticulum inverting and protruding into the gastric lumen due to changes in gastric pressure. This report presents a case of a 54-year-old female with two gastric diverticula, one is the ordinary diverticulum located in the pyloric region and the other is an inverted diverticulum located in the gastric body, incidentally discovered during a routine health check-up. The initial abnormality was detected on ultrasound, which only revealed the pyloric diverticulum. Subsequent endoscopy identified one inverted diverticulum in the gastric body, and the following CT scan confirmed the presence of both diverticula. Inverted gastric diverticula are often asymptomatic and are commonly discovered incidentally during upper gastrointestinal endoscopy. There is a risk of perforation if biopsy is performed near the weakened muscle layer. Since the prevalence of diverticular diseases and polyps both increases with age, it may be more common to encounter IGD and polyps during endoscopy in the elderly.
