Abstract

Background: competency based clinical teaching model for nursing education is a new model of training in Vietnam. Currently clinical practice of nursing students in hospitals need to interested for achieve competence certain clinical practice after graduate. Our research aims: (1) Evaluate the effectiveness for the application of competency based clinical teaching model in 10 point departments. (2) Propose some solutions to improve the effectiveness of this model for nursing education at Hue Central Hospital. Methods: 44 nurses of 10 point departments of Hue Central Hospital are clinical teaching and 159 students of the Hue Medical College who are practicing at 10 point departments. We designed the cross-sectional descriptive study. Results: Faculty of clinical teaching are: head nurse (56.82%), Bachelor degree (88.64%), worked time > 10 years (93.18%) and (56.82%) participated previous training. - The collaboration between: the college and hospital faculty (100%), faculty together (97.73%). 100% of the faculty is: to identify objectives, content (96.23%), enthusiasm (98.74%), easy to understand and attract presentation (99, 37%). - Methods of demonstration, modeling is applied most often (90.91%). Clinical teaching contents were consistent with theoretical study (97.48%). - (92.97%) faculty evaluated last round of objectives. - (100%) students feedbacks are: positive learning and more opportunity to practice. Conclusions: the competenvy based clinical teaching model for nursing education has been effectively applied in 10 point departments of Hue Central Hospital. The interest and cooperation between schools and hospitals is essential in developing training programs to achieve the basic standard capacity of nursing after graduation
