Abstract
Objectives: To determine the percentage and evaluate some clinical and clinical characteristics in malignant pleural effusion at Hue Central Hospital. Subjects and Method: A cross-sectional, descriptive study on 162 patients, who were hospitalised to Tuberculosis department, Hue Central hospital from April, 2015 to September, 2016. Malignant pleural effusion or tuberculous pleural effusion were determined. Data were analysed by Epidata and SPSS 16.0. Results: Malignant pleural effusion accounted for 24.07%, tuberculous pleural effusion accounted for 75.93%. In malignant pleural effusion group: ≥60 years old is higher than tuberculous pleural effusion group (64.10% vs 19.51%: p<0.01); Fever is lower than (23.08% vs 72.36%: p<0.01); Pleural fluid: red is higher than (56.41% vs 05.69%: p<0.01), erythrocyte existing is higher than (69.23% vs 17.07%: p<0.01), endothelial cells>20% is higher than (23.08% vs 01.63%: p<0.01); Chest X-ray: mediastinum pulled is higher than (12.82% vs 0.81%: p<0.05); Thoracic ultrasound: pleural lesion is higher than (58.97% vs 37.40%: p<0.05). Conclusion: There are significant differences on the some characteristicsbetween malignant pleural effusion with tuberculous pleural effusion
