Abstract

Background: The study was to evaluate the oncological outcomes of early-stage glottic carcinoma treated with transoral CO2 laser microsurgery.

Methods: The case series study was conducted on 30 patients who were diagnosed with the early-stage (stage I, II) laryngeal cancer and treated by transoral CO2 laser microsurgery at Department of Otolaryngology – Hue Central Hospital from 3/2022 to 6/2024.

Results: The mean age was 65.4 ± 9.3. The male/female ratio was 29/1. Smoking accounted for 83.3%. The rate of hoarseness was 96.7%. Stage I accounted for 76.7%. Type Va surgery made up 50%. No complications during surgery had 21/30 cases. The mean VAS was 2.3 ± 1.1. The percentage of anterior glottic web was 53.3% after 3 months. The VHI decreased after 3 months.

Conclusion: Transoral CO2 laser microsurgery is treated to early-stage laryngeal cancer with high efficiency, complete tumor removal, maximum preservation of benign mucosa and maintenance of important organ functions.
