Abstract
Background: Medical solid waste is one of the hazardous, complicated types of wastes, which possibly causes environmental pollution and affects public health; therefore, the healthcare solid waste management is considered the top priority, and the knowledge, attitude and practice of health officers is the most concerned issue.
Objective: To assess health officers' knowledge, attitude and practice in the implementation of medical solid waste management regulations at Hue Central Hospital.
Subjects and methods: Horizontal description, assessment with questionnaires for 770 medical officers from 54 units belonging to all clinical, subclinical departments at Hue Central Hospital. Evaluation criteria: Based on Decision No 43/2007/QD-BYT dated November 30th 2007 by the Minister of Health on promulgating medical waste management regulations.
Results: There are 91% of medical officers obtaining general knowledge of the implementation of infectious medical waste management regulations, 81.6% of them owning general knowledge of waste, 93.5% of them achieving the knowledge of waste sorting and collection, 96.8% of them obtaining knowledge of transferring storage, 100% of them having correct attitudes of medical waste management and 77% of them practicing right medical waste management process.
Conclusion: There is a high percentage of medical officers who have the knowledge and attitudes to medical waste management (90-100%), and a lower rate of officer who practice correctly (77%) due to various factors
