Abstract

Background: Skin diseases in elderly patients are influenced by intrinsic, extrinsic, and comorbid factors, significantly impacting health and requiring targeted research for better management.

Methods: A cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted on 391 patients aged 60 years or older who visited Thong Nhat Hospital for dermatological examination from January to April 2023.

Results: Immune-allergic skin diseases accounted for the highest prevalence (62.1%), followed by infectious skin diseases (18.7%), non-lesional pruritus (16.6%), and skin tumors (4.9%). Associated factors included: chronic venous insufficiency increasing the risk of stasis dermatitis, corticosteroid use reducing atopic dermatitis symptoms, and antihistamines alleviating urticaria symptoms.

Conclusion: Skin diseases in the elderly are diverse, with immune-allergic conditions being the most common. Comorbidities and medications play critical roles in disease manifestations. Accurate diagnosis and appropriate management are essential to minimize complications.
