Abstract
Background: Autoimmune thyroid disease actuallyisnot rare in children, but if not recognized and treated it can seriously interfere with growth, development and puberty. This study aims to determine the natural history, and clinical and paraclinicalcharacteristics of autoimmune thyroid diseasein pediatric patients.
Methods: The method conducted was a cross-sectional survey. In total, 50 cases were diagnosed. Children with anti - TPO positivity and goiter were summoned for detailed examinations.
Results: The mean age at diagnosis was 10.52 ± 3.04 years. Grave’s disease in the family was present in 24% of the children. At diagnosis, 48% patients was Grave’s disease, 28% was Hashimoto’s thyroiditis Hashimoto and 24% was euthyroid goiter.
Conclusion: The antibodies TPOAb, TgAb has an important role in diagnosis and autoimmune thyroid disease surveillance
