Abstract

Background: The educational health consulting is one of the duties of nurses. This study aims to describe the educational health consultancy activities of nurses at clinical departments and assess the satisfaction of patients on the educational health consultancy activities at Hue Central Hospital - 2nd Branch, and to assess educational and counsulting skills of nurses on patients in clinical departments.

Method and object: This is a descriptive cross-sectional study. We surveyed on 196 patients in 13 clinical departments at the time of being discharged from the hospital. Collect data via the questionnaire.

Results: Of all participants, lower-secondary level was 53.1%. There were effective differences among the rate of nurses in implementing educational health consultancy. In particular, the instruction and explanation of nurses before procedures including infusion, subclinical techniques such as ultrasound, X ray and endoscopy reached the highest rate with 97.5%. Patients highly appreciated skills of the nurses that were easy to listen, clearly, attractive, attentive and the content of activity as suitable and achieves 100%. However, 63.3% of patients showed that the consultation session lacked of illustrating images. The personal educational health consultancy activity was used more than the group one.

Conclusion: Educational health consultancy activities is highly appreciated with 95.9% of patients being satisfied and highly satisfied. The research showed that it is necessary to prepare documents for the activities with illustrating images for participants to understand the content clearly. In addition, there are needs in increasing the inspection and supervision of the activities to achieve greater efficiency.
