Abstract

Background: COVID-19 is an acute viral infection and has affected seriously all over the world. One of the dangerous complications of COVID-19 is thrombosis. D-dimer is a reliable marker for thrombosis, the higher D-dimer level, the more serious thrombosis. Therefore, D-dimer can be used as a marker to assess and prognosticate in COVID-19 patients.

Objective: Evaluating the rate of D-dimer increase in COVID-19 patients and look for some related factor with D-dimer increase.

Methods: Cross - sectional descriptive research method. Studying 205 medical records of COVID-19 patients treated at Da Nang Hospital for Lung Diseases, Viet Nam, from 9/2021 to 4/2022.

Results: The rate of D-dimer increase in COVID-19 patients at Da Nang Hospital for Lung Diseases was 73.2%; Factors associated with D-dimer increase in COVID-19 patients included: age, history of diabetes, clinical symptoms such as fever, chest tightness, shortness of breath, fatigue, cognitive disorders (p < 0.05). Patients with D-dimer values > 638 µg/L had more severe disease (sensitivity 80.0% and specificity 90.8%); curve area AUC = 0.900.

Conclusion: D-dimer is considered as an indicator related to the severity of Covid-19
