Abstract

Background: Vietnam is a country with a high disability rate. According to the General Statistics Office and UNICEF announced the results of the National Survey on People with Disabilities in Vietnam (2019), more than 7% of the population aged 2 years and over - more than 6.2 million people, are people with disabilities. Assessment
of quality of life is a human factor in health care for people with disabilities. The issue of improving their quality of life is a huge challenge for the government and most importantly in terms of health.
Methods: Carrying out a cross-sectional descriptive study with analysis on 320 people with mobility impairments over 18 years old in Phu Vang District, Thua Thien Hue in combination with the support of providing additional information from relatives and carers, who are closest to people with disabilities from May 2021 to June 2022.
Results: The average age of the study subjects was 46.56 ± 20.09, male accounted for 58.1%. The majority do not work for income (71.6%). More than half of the study
subjects had a lower secondary education (65.6%). Mainly non - religious accounts for 55.0%. Non - professional/near - poor household accounts for 66.6%. The marital status is mostly single, which accounts for 54.4%. The average score of overall quality of life of the study subjects was 45.22 (10.75), in which the highest mean score of quality of life is in the environmental aspect (47.67) and the lowest is in the physical aspect (43.04).
Conclusion: People with disabilities have limited bodily functions, face many difficulties and obstacles in daily life, besides the guilt about defects and limited opportunities in life, thereby affecting quality of life and general health status.
