Abstract
Objective: 1. Evaluating outcomes of brain metastasis treatment by whole brain radiotherapy. 2. Evaluating symptoms’ response and patients’ quality of life.
Method: Prospective study including 97 patients who had been initially treated; brain metastasis dignosis by brain Ctscan and MRI, typical clinical symptoms. All patients had been treated by whole brain radiotherapy.
Result: Male/female ratio was 62/35 (1,77). Mean age ranged from 40-60t (60,8%). Common initial symptoms was headache (100%). Vomitting was 74/97 (76,3%). Most common primary tumor was at lung. High rate presence of multifocal lessions: 97,9% was more than 2 lessions. Brain edema common seen at 3nd,4th fraction. Symptoms decreased after 2 weeks of radiotherapy, equivalent to 8 and more fractions (3Gy/fraction).
Conclusion: Whole brain radiotherapy with 30Gy, 3Gy/fraction for brain metastasis cancers improved patient’s quality of life, decreased symptoms significantly. Furthermore , following up and complications’ management gave beneficial effect.
