Abstract

Objective: To investigate the MRI characteristics of cervical cancer before radiotherapy and to evaluate imaging changes after radiotherapy, contributing to the assessment of therapeutic effectiveness.

Methods: This study included 48 cervical cancer patients treated with concurrent chemoradiotherapy combined with brachytherapy at Hue Central Hospital from June 2023 to August 2024. MRI findings were analyzed before and after treatment.

Results: The average age was 52.15 ± 10.1. Squamous cell carcinoma 89.6%, and adenocarcinoma 10.4%. Pre-treatment cervical tumors were characterized by hyperintensity on T2-weighted images (75%), hyperintensity on Diffusion (100%), and contrast enhancement lower than myometrium (89.6%). Post-treatment imaging showed good response with reduced size, decreased invasiveness, hypointensity on T2W, and decreased diffusion restriction. The rates of partial and complete responses were 95.8%. The most common complications observed were urinary and gastrointestinal (10.4%).

Conclusion: MRI is an effective imaging modality for assessing therapeutic efficacy in cervical cancer.
