Knowledge, and practices towards hand washing and mask wearing during covid‐19 pandemic among outpatients in Thong Nhat Hospital: A cross-sectional survey

Abstract

Background: In response to COVID-19 pandemic, Vietnam has adopted different measures to prevent and control its spread.In order to ensure the success of any strategy, the adherence of the general public to the guidelines is essential.

Objectives: To survey knowledge, and practices for hand washing and mask wearing during COVID-19 pandemic among patients who come to outpatient care at Thong Nhat Hospital in Ho Chi Minh City. Materials and method: A cross-sectional survey was conducted among outpatients at Thong Nhat Hospital, Ho Chi Minh City from May 2020 to July 2020. Researchers interviewed patients directly using prepared questionnaires.

Results: A total of 1,555 patients,the median age was 57 (43-67) years and 51.7% were male. 84.1%- 99.2% frequently washing their hands and 84.4% using hand sanitizer or soap in the month.Nearly all of the patients (98.5%) wore masks when going out in the last month.

Conclusion: The majority of patients participating in the study had good knowledge and practices for hand washing and mask wearing during the COVID-19 pandemic.
