Abstract
Objective: This study to evaluate the effectiveness of superficial circumflex iliac artery perforator (SCIP) flap in reconstruction after hemiglossectomy due to cancer.
Method: The author reports a clinical case using SCIP flap to reconstruct tongue of the patient with half-tongue defects after tongue cancer surgery at Oncology-Palliative care Department of Hue Central Hospital branch 2.
Result: The patient did not have accumulating of liquid, wound infection and bleeding after surgery, the flap survived well. The patient was taken nasogastric tube out after ten days and discharged after two weeks. Postoperative functional assessments (speech, swallowing) as well as aesthetic of tongue (symmetry) have significant improvement over the 1 month, 3 months and 6 months.
Conclusion: SCIP flap is a choice for the patients with large flaws at tongue and floor of the mouth. It ensures both functional and aesthetic for the regenerative tongue and donor-site. The disadvantage of the flap: the length of the flap is moderate, the diameter of the arteries and veins is small.
