Abstract
Introduction: The application of Laser in treatment has been studied and applied, but it is still new and there are still many gaps in knowledge about at each stage of lesion progression in patients. Currently, most of odonto - stomatology centers across the country rarely use CO2 Lasers and other Lasers, only using diode Lasers in dentistry mainly. Indeed, there are several types of Lasers are used with outstanding effectiveness, which can be applied in many majors of dentistry. This study aims to evaluate the results of CO2 Laser application in the treatment of maxillofacial soft tissue disorders at the Center of Odonto - Stomatology, Hue Central Hospital.
Methods: 165 patients with tumors and soft tissue lesions in the maxillofacial region, indicated for CO2 Laser surgery at Center of Odonto - Stomatology, Hue Central Hospital from Jan 2019 to Jan 2022. The selected tumor size is less than 01 cm in length and 0.5 cm in width, the tumor is made biopsy before treatment. A cross - sectional descriptive study with clinical intervention.
Results: The mean age was 35 years. Gender: male 46.8%, female 53.28% (p > 0.05). For superficial lesions: most diagnoses are papilloma 26.7%, benign melanoma 25%, keloid scars 20%. After surgery, the re - examination after 3 months showed the remark of grade 3 scars: 36.7%. The percentage of scar color level is quite 38.3%, poor 23.3%, good 18.3%; Good healing 78.3%; Recurrence 0%. Re-examination after 6 months, depth of scars grade 3: 18.3%. The result of scar color is good 51.7%, poor 13.3%; Good healing 83.3%; Recurrence 13.3%. For lesions in the mouth: the most common disorder was the low frenal attachment (24.8%), the mucinous tumor of 20.9%; After surgery, re - examination after 3 months showed good healing 72.4%; Recurrence 0%. Re - examination after 6 months, good wound healing 91.4%; Recurrence 5.7%.
Conclusion: CO2 Laser has the ability to remove most tumors and causes little damage to surrounding tissue. Thanks to good hemostasis, CO2 Laser surgery has high accuracy. However, in the impact area of the CO2 Laser, there is always a surrounding thermal necrosis zone, to overcome and reduce these limitations, it is necessary to follow the correct technical process, select the appropriate parameters on each patient.
