Abstract
Purpose: To evaluate the diagnostic and predictive values of high preoperative CYFRA 21 - 1 and CEA serum levels in patients with stage I - IIIA non - small cell lung cancer (NSCLC).
Methods: Medical records of patients with NSCL Coperated in two years 2018 - 2019 at Surgery Department No 2, HCMC Oncology Hospital were studied retrospectively.
Results: Preoperative CYFRA 21 - 1 serum levels correlated well wih the disease stage (p = 0,011), but high preoperative CYFRA 21 - 1 serum level (> 3.3 ng/mL) may not predict well the patients with NSCLC being in advanced clinical stages. Preoperative CEA serum levelswere not good indicators to predict the disease stage. Combination of high preoperative CYFRA 21 - 1 (> 3.3 ng/mL) and CEA (> 5ng/mL) serum levelsin patients with suspected NSCLC may suggest that the histologic result of their tumors was adenocarcinoma.
Conclusion: Preoperative CYFRA 21 - 1 and CEA serum levels were not good indicators to predict the disease stage. Combination of high preoperative CYFRA 21 - 1 (> 3.3 ng/mL) and CEA (> 5ng/mL) serum levels in patients with suspected NSCLC may suggest that the histologic result of their tumors was adenocarcinoma.
