Abstract
Objectives: To evaluate the results of using free flaps in reconstruction defects after head and neck cancer resection at Hanoi National Hospital of Odonto - Stomatology.
Methods: A retrospective, cross - sectional study on 255 patients with diagnosis of head and neck cancer. Patients were treated with en bloc resection and immediate reconstruction with free flap at NHOS from 2012 - 2022.
Results: 255 free flaps were used in tissue reconstruction after head and neck cancer resection. Including 134 fibula flaps, 99 lateral arm flaps, 17 anterolateral thigh flaps and 5 cases using the complex of fibula - anterolateral thigh flaps in reconstruction defects after cancer resection. Success rate 250/255 (98.03%) cases.
Conclusion: Using flexible free flaps can restore essential functions and aesthetics of the maxillofacial region, improve the quality of life of patients in head and neck cancer treatment.
