Abstract
Background: Medical personnel are exposed to many harmful occupational factors, especially the risk of transmitting blood - borne diseases from patients, including hepatitis B virus. Healthcare workers, including nurses in clinical faculty who directly care patients, must have knowledge and practice in specialized procedures when they come in contact with patients and contaminated instruments, especially patients who tests positive for hepatitis B.
Method: A cross - sectional descriptive type of study was conducted in 414 nurses working in clinical faculty in Hue Central hospital.
Results: The result shows that the level of knowledge was good (94,4%) and practice level was satisfactory (65,7%) on HBV infection prevention related activities. The inter - rater reliability between knowledge prevention and implementation of hepatitis B wasvery good (Kappa = 0.8).
Conclusions: The study findings concluded that the majority of the respondents had good knowledge in HBV infection prevention. However, not all of them with good knowledge carried out good practices about to HBV infection prevention in their working place. Authority should be ensuring periodical training program to maintain continued good level of knowledge and practice for prevention HBV infection, especially safe injection practices and conducting in occuptational accidents.
