Abstract
Background: Direct sputum AFB test has low sensitivity, easy to miss AFB (-) pulmonary tuberculosis. Vietnam has deployed the Gene Xpert MTB/RIF test as a rapid diagnostic technique for tuberculosis. To evaluate the rate of new pulmonary TB AFB(-), survey and compare some characteristics with new pulmonary TB AFB(+); Determination of the sensitivity of Gene Xpert MTB/RIF test in the diagnosis of new pulmonary TB AFB(-).
Methods: Subjects were 328 new pulmonary tuberculosis patients, including 202 AFB(-) and 126 AFB(+), descriptive cross-sectional method.
Results: The rate of new pulmonary tuberculosis AFB(-) accounted for 61.58%. Compared with new pulmonary TB AFB(+): The rate of admission to other departmentsof new pulmonary TB AFB(-) is higher (20.09%, vs 11.11%: p < 0.01), lesions with cavernous lesions lower (30.20% vs 41.27%: p < 0.05), higher grade I lung injury (32.67% vs 20.63%: p < 0.05). The sensitivity of Gene Xpert MTB/RIF sputum test in the diagnosis of new pulmonary TB AFB(-) is 72.28%.
Conclusions: The sensitivity of Gene Xpert MTB/RIF sputum test in the diagnosis of new pulmonary TB AFB(-) is 72.28%.
