Abstract

Objectives: Evaluate outcome of endovascular therapy for chronic lower extremity artery disease at Hue Central hospital.

Methods: A cross - sectional descriptive study on 41 patients with chronic lower extremity artery disease were treated by endovascular intervention at Hue Central hospital from January 2020 to June 2021. Technical success, primary patency, clinical status improvement, limb salvage, ABI index, Doppler ultrasounds after intervention were recorded for outcome.

Results: Among 41 patients enrolled to the study, the mean age was 73.5 ± 10,9 years, 73.2% was male. The major site of intervention was iliac - femoral - popliteal (70,7%). TASCII B,C lesions were commonly found (65,9%). There were 18 lesions (22,7%) treated with balloon inflation only, and 37 lesions (67,3%) managed with balloon and stent. Technical success counted for 35 case (85,4%). The mean value of ABI before and after the intervention were 0,61 ± 0,15 and 0,79 ± 0,13 respectively, (p < 0,001). The primary patency was 87,8%. Limb salvage rate was 75,0%. The common complications during and after the procedure were: access site hematomas (2,4%), embolism (4,9%), dissection (2,4%) and death due to internal bleeding (2,4%).

Conclusion: Percutaneous intervention of chronic lower extremity artery disease has a good results and high successful rate, the complication and death during and after the procedure were low. More researchs of mid-term and long - term outcome should be pursued in order to provide sufficient evidence for physician’s decision making.
