Abstract
Background: Insulin resistance is common in chronic hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection. The triglyceride–glucose (TyG) index is a low-cost surrogate, whereas HOMA-IR requires fasting insulin. This study aims to assess insulin resistance using TyG and HOMA-IR and examine their relationship with selected clinical variables.
Methods: Cross-sectional study of 88 adults with chronic HCV at Binh Thanh District Hospital, Ho Chi Minh City, May 2020–June 2021.
Results: Mean TyG was 4.14 ± 0.52; 47.7% had TyG ≥4.11. Median HOMA-IR was 2.4; 48.9% had HOMA-IR ≥2.6. TyG correlated with HOMA-IR, systolic blood pressure and liver stiffness, and inversely with HDL-C.
Conclusion: TyG may support low-cost screening of metabolic risk in chronic HCV, but population-specific validation is required.
