Abstract

Background: Ultrasound-guided radiofrequency ablation (RFA) is a minimally invasive treatment modality for benign thyroid nodules.

Methods: This prospective descriptive study included 35 patients with 36 benign thyroid nodules treated between October 2023 and October 2025. Follow-up assessments were performed at 1, 3, and 6 months. Outcome measures included the volume reduction ratio (VRR), symptom score, cosmetic score, complications, and thyroid function.

Results: The mean age was 46.8 ± 12.3 years, and all patients were female. The VRR reached 26.5%, 50.0%, and 73.5% at 1, 3, and 6 months, respectively. Both symptom and cosmetic scores improved over time. The overall complication rate was 11.4%, consisting predominantly of minor events, with no major complications observed. Thyroid function was preserved in 100% of patients.

Conclusion: Ultrasound-guided RFA is a safe, effective, and thyroid function–preserving treatment option for benign thyroid nodules.
