Abstract
THE USE OF MODIFIED CHECK - LIST AUTISM IN TODDLERS IN EVALUATING CHILDREN WITH AUTISM SPECTRUM DISORDER
Objective: To determine the relationship between the risk of autism spectrum disorder (ASD) according to modified check - list autism in toddlers (M-CHAT) and the level of ASD according to the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, 5th edition (DSM-5) in children aged 18 - 36 months with ASD.
Methods: A cross - sectional study was conducted on 59 children aged 18 - 36 months who diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder according to DSM-5. All children were evaluated using M-CHAT and compared to the diagnostic criteria for autism according to DSM-5.
Results: The study found a relationship between the risk of autism according to M-CHAT and these components according to DSM-5: children demonstrating abnormalities in communication and social interaction (p < 0.05); children with abnormal symptoms of behavior, interests, and activities (p < 0,05).
Conclusions: M-CHAT is simple and easy to use; can be applied in early screening and diagnosing of autism spectrum disorder in children
