Abstract

Objective: To assess results of treatment of spinal bone subsidence due to osteoporosis by the bio - cement pump with the balloon at Thai Binh general hospital.

Methods: A cross - sectional descriptive study of 37 patients with confirmed diagnosis of vertebral collapse due to osteoporosis at Thai Binh General Hospital from January to December 2020.

Results: Osteoporotic was more common in women than men, with female/male ratios, were 29/8. It accounts for the highest proportion in patients aged 60 - 80 years, accounting for 78,38%. The average operative time was 40.5 ± 11.4 minutes. Most patients received bilateral pedicle pumps (97.7%). The average balloon inflation pressure is 280.1 ± 32.1 PSI. The effect of restoring the height of the collapsed vertebral was 33/42, and the recovery is very good and very good. Quality of life after surgery was significantly improved, with good and very good rates accounting for 86.5%.

Conclusion: The effect of restoring the height of collapsed vertebrae is high, and this improvement was maintained after 3 months of treatment. The effectiveness of hunchback correction and pain relief based on the VAS scale were statistically significant when compared with before and after bio-cement injection (p < 0.001).
