Abstract
Introduction: Endometrial polyps often cause prolonged menstruation (menorrhagia) and infertility. Hysteroscopic surgery of the uterine cavity helps to detect and effectively treat uterine abnormalities, allowing patients to recover quickly and improve their chances of a natural pregnancy.
Methods: A descriptive cross-sectional study using retrospective data was conducted on 48 cases indicated for hysteroscopic polypectomy due to endometrial polyps at the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Hue Central Hospital – Branch 2, from January 2022 to September 2024.
Results: The mean age was 40.2 ± 9.9 years. Primary infertility was observed in 6.2% of patients and secondary infertility in 2.1%. The most common reason for hospital admission was abnormal uterine bleeding (50%). Hysteroscopy and histopathology were concordant in 65.1% of cases for endometrial polyps and 100% for placental polyps. No intraoperative complications were recorded. Abnormal uterine bleeding improved in 95.8% of patients; none reported lower abdominal pain or pain associated with bleeding at 3 months postoperatively. Among infertile patients, 50% achieved spontaneous conception after hysteroscopic polypectomy.
Conclusion:Hysteroscopic surgery is an effective and safe method for treating endometrial polyps
