Abstract

Background: Advanced non-small cell lung (NSCLC) patients with compound EGFR mutations often have a poor response to tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs) compared to common EGFR mutations.

Methods: A retrospective study of 78 patients at stage IV NSCLC with compound EGFR mutations.

Results: 13/78 cases carried EGFR del19 and insertion 20 mutations (16.7%). The remaining double mutations accounted for less than 10%. The response and disease control rates of 1^st generation TKIs were 25.6% and 29.4%; of 2^nd generation TKIs were 35.9% and 44.9%; of 3^rd generation TKIs were 16.7% and 20.5%.

Conclusions: 2^nd generation TKIs have good response and disease control rates in some patients with compound EGFR mutations.
