Abstract
In children with pneumonia, some biochemical indices were disordered.
Objective: To evaluate the variation and correlation of serum sodium, ADH concentration on the severity of pneumonia.
Subjects and methods: A cross-sectional, descriptive study on 75 children from 2 months to 5 years old, who were diagnosed with pneumonia and severe pneumonia, treated at the Center of Pediatrics, Hue Central Hospital. The severity of pneumonia was done by WHO classification of pneumonia 2013. All patient were taken blood for determiningthe serum Sodium and ADH concentration. Data were analysed by SPSS 16.0 sofware.
Results: There was a clear change of serum sodium and ADH concentration. In the pneumonia group, mean sodium concentration was 36.2±4.16 mEq/L; higher than the severe pneumonia group (133.75±4.62 mEq/L; p<0.05). In severe pneumonia group, mean concentration of serum ADH was 31.54±16.39 pg/mL higher than the pneumonia group (22.93±13.9 pg/mL) (p<0.05). There was moderately inverse correlated between serum ADH and sodium concentration ((r<0.3, p<0.5).
