Abstract
Unrelated donor hematopoietic stem cell transplantation has been on the rise throughout the world. As the results achieved with unrelated donors have been shown satisfactory, the indications for unrelated transplantation have been broaden to various malignant and non-malignant hematologic diseases. Blood Transfusion and Hematology hospital signed a cooperation agreement with Buddhist Tzu Chi Stem Cells Center (Taiwan) to raise the chance of finding unrelated donors. The cooperation leads to the success of the first unrelated donor transplantation at Blood Transfusion and Hematology hospital, and offers hope to Vietnamese patients who are candidates for stem cell transplantation but fail to have a suitable related donor.
