Abstract
Objective: To evaluate the quality of whole blood (WB) and blood components of blood bank (BB) at Blood Transfusion and Hematology Hospital (BTHH) Hochiminh City in 2016.
Subjects and methods: Cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted on total collected WB and prepared blood components of BB at BTHH in 2016 through procedures of quality control following European and American GMP standards as well as ISO 9001-2015 ones from collection, screening, preparation and usage at BB of BTHH.
Results: The quanlity of blood components was confirmed by 100% of collected WB from volunteer blood donors. Apart from routine ELISA and CLIA screening for HIV, HCV, HBV, HTLV, and unexpected antibodies; 100% of blood components was additionally screened by NAT (nucleic acid testing) for HIV, HBV and HCV. Quality control of frozen fresh plasma, cryoprecipitates, apheresis platelet concentrates that met the standards reached 100%, pooled platelet concentrates reached 90% and packed red blood cells (PRBC) were 98%. Usage of blood components reached 100% including phenotype matched PRBC, irradiated PRBC, and frozen PRBC.
Conclusion: Quality of WB and blood components of BB at BTHH Hochiminh City met European and American GMP standards with 100% of collected WB from volunteer blood donors, quality of blood components reached 98-100%, and screening tests were high technique.
