Abstract
Object: Evaluation of complication in use of Swan-Ganz catheter for hemodynamic monitoring of valvular surgical patients in Cardiovascular Anesthesiology Department of Hue Central Hospital. Methods: 28 patients of valvular heart surgery with severe pronosis were assigned to receive therapy guided by hemodynamic assessment and an additional Swan-Ganz catheter and detected complications. Results: There were some of detected complications such as catheter occlusion (3,5%), cutaneous infection (3,5%). Arrhythmias constitute the most common complication associated with Swan-Ganz catheter insertion. Most of these are premature ventricular contractions or nonsustained ventricular tachycardia (17,8%). There was not mechanical complications such as pulmonary artery rupture or heart wall piercing complication. Conclusion: The complications of Swan-Ganz technique in our study were insignificant in comparison with its useful effects in hemodynamic monitoring of patients with valvular heart surgery
