Abstract
In addition to surgical treatment, the nursing care also contributes greatly to the outcome of the patients. Determining and meeting the patient's need for postoperative care also bring good result in the recovery of the patient. We studied 40 patients with chest drains caused by trauma of disease, in the Department of Thoracic - Cardiovascular Surgery, Hue Central Hospital from 02 to 08/2011. 80% of patients aged 20 to 60, more men than women. 20% hospitalised due to traffic accidents, 65% due to diseases of the chest. The problem our patients often encountered were worry (85%), insomnia (85.75), pain (85%). Drain position were well after the first day. Rehabilitation usually started on day 2 or 3 after surgery, chest tubes were removed after 24 - 48 hours. The outcome were good, 95% without complications. Thus, good nursing care will contribute to improving the quality and treament outcomes patients with chest drain.
