Abstract

Hypertension is a common disease worldwide as well as in Vietnam. It is a threat to human health and the firstly ranked cause of disability and death in the elderly. Objectives: to describe the care situation in the elderly patients with hypertension treated in the General Internal Medicine - Geriatric Department, Hue Central Hospital and to identify some of the needs for care among elderly patients with hypertension. Method: 131 elderly patients (aged 60 years or older) diagnosed with hypertension are treated at the General Intemal medicine - Gerontology department, Hue Central Hospital from April 2011 to March 2012. Results: Regarding the situation of the care for the elderly patients with hypertension, over 70% of the elderly patients with hypertension treated in the department of pharmacy is cared quite well. Checking blood pressure after drug usage accounted for 71% of cases. Meanwhile, this work was not performed before drug usage at 29% patients.
