Abstract
Objectives:The aim of investigating current quality of life and some associated factors in children with epilepsy using QOLCE-55.
Methods:A prospective observational study included 43 cases of patients diagnosed and treated for epilepsy at least 6 months at Pediatrics Center in Hue Central Hospital from 7/2023 to 7/2024.
Results:The average overall quality of life (QoL) score was 50.15 ± 15.97. The overall QoL was significantly affected by seizure frequency (p < 0.01). Cognitive function was the most severely impacted, with the lowest average score of 46.28 ± 25.56, while emotional function was less affected, with an average score of 56.72 ± 19.30. Children with complete seizure control had better quality of life (rₛ = 0.367; p < 0.05). Shorter treatment duration (rₛ = -0.035; p < 0.05), effective seizure control (rₛ = 0.392; p < 0.05), and favorable academic status (rₛ = 0.418; p < 0.05) were associated with better cognitive function.
Conclusions:Children with epilepsy have a worse quality of life than the average value. In this study, we assessed that most patients had cognitive impairment. Therefore, patients need to be monitored regularly and receive appropriate supportive treatment.
