Abstract
Background: Laparoscopic distal gastrectomy with intracorporeal anastomosis is not a routinely performed procedure due to technical challenges and requires experienced surgeons. Therefore, this study aimed to evaluate the outcomes of this technique for gastric cancer.
Methods: A descriptive study included 46 patients with gastric cancer, who underwent laparoscopic distal gastrectomy with intracorporeal anastomosis from March 2022 to June 2024.
Results: The study included 73.9% male, with a mean age of 64.2±11.9 years. The mean BMI was 20.7±2.3 kg/m2. The average operative time was 217.6±45.4 minutes (ranging, 150-330). Type of reconstruction included 63.0% Billroth II and 37.0% Roux-en-Y anastomosis. The mean time to oral intake was 3.9±1.2 days, and drain removal time was 4.7±2.1 days. The overall complication rate was 13.0%. According to the Clavien-Dindo classification, there were 8.7% grade I and 4.3% grade II. The mean hospital stay after surgery was 10.7±3.7 days (ranging, 7-28).
Conclusion: Laparosopic distal gastrectomy with intracorporeal anastomosis is a safe and feasible procedure for gastric cancer.
