Abstract
Background: Mastectomy in breast cancer patients often affects the patient’s quality of life, especially in young patients. Therefore, skin/nipple sparing mastectomies with immediate reconstruction by implants is a step forward in breast cancer treatment, which is not only safe in terms of oncology but also improves the quality of life for patients.
Methods: We conducted a prospective descriptive study with 34 breast cancer patients who met the inclusion and exclusion criteria, had immediate implant-based breast reconstruction after skin/nipple sparing mastectomies at Oncology Department - Hue University of Medicine and Pharmacy Hospital from May 2020 to May 2023.
Results: Median follow-up time was 17.5 ± 10 months, no recurrence was detected. Aesthetic score were at a excellent and good level at 1 month, 1 year and 2 years after surgery was 88.2%; 95.7% and 80,0%. The early complications after surgery was: 8.82% necrosis of the epidermis of the nipple; infection 5.88%. The patients group with adjuvant radiotherapy was 5.88%, which did not significantly change the aesthetic results.
Conclusion: Skin/nipple sparing mastectomies with immediate reconstruction by implants is oncologically safe, has few complications, and has good cosmetic results. Aesthetic results are not affected by adjuvant radiotherapy
