Abstract
The PCR test has been developed for detection of M. tuberculosis on many patient groups.
Objective: Evaluation and application of MTB-PCR for diagnosis of tuberculosis at Hue Central Hospital.
Methods: We studied the samples of 100 patients with the diagnosis of pulmonary and extra-pulmonary tuberculosis at Hue Central Hospital. The samples have been tested with 3 methods: Ziehl-Neelsen stain, culture and PCR.
The ratio of positive samples by PCR test was 46%, by culture was 34% and by Ziehl-Neelsen stain was 24%.
This result demonstrated that the PCR test is more sensitive than the culture technique for detection of M. tuberculosis.
