Abstract

Introduction: Antibacterial linen has been studied and used in many hospitals in the world but not yet used in Vietnam.
Objective: to evaluate the effectiveness of antibacterial linen in reducing the incidence of hospital acquired infections.
Methods: Experimental study, before and after intervention, to estimated the effectiveness of using antibacteria linen NMS at the Intensive care rooms of Burn and Tropical diseases department from January 2013 to May 2013 and June 2013 to December 2013.
Results: There were totally 190 patients in every period. The incidence of HAIS decreased by 31.9% when using antibacterial linen. Microbial density on linen decreased by 50.0% when using antibacterial linen. The density of air contamination reduced by 50.0% after using antibacterial linen. The antibacterial linen helped to save more than 2.2 billions VND due to HAIS in the period after intervention.
Conclusion: Using antibacterial linen help reduce hospital acquired infections and is cost effectiveness. It should be introduced into hospital, especially in high risk departments and used for health care workers.
