Abstract
Purposes: Evaluating results of bipolar transurethral vaporization of the prostate in the treatment of
benign prostatic hyperplasia at Hue Central Hospital – Base 2
Subjects and Methods: Descriptive prospective and cross sectional study with 31 patients with benign prostatic hyperplasia, who treated by bipolar transurethral vaporization of the prostate, at Department of
General Surgery, Hue Central Hospital – Base 2, from 12/2018 to 6/2019.
Results: Mean age: 73.66 ± 10.056 (56-103). Average prostate volume: 45.2ml. Pre-operation, IPSS
average >20 point, Mean PVR: 42ml. Operation time:52 (30-60) minutes. Intra-op. irrigant volume: 16
(12-20) litres. No statistical difference of serum Na+ concentration between pre- and postoperative value.
Cleaning continous bladder irrigation 24 hours post-operation are 19 patients, 48 hours post-operation are
12 patients. Catheterization time: 4 days. After catheter removed, acute urinary retention occurred in 2
patients, hematuria occurred in 10 patients, fever occurred in 5 patients, urinary incontinence occurred in
7 patients.
Conclusions: Bipolar transurethral vaporization of the prostate in the treatment of benign prostatic
hyperplasia is highly effective in improving symtoms of BOO and low accident and complication.
Keywords: Prostatic hyperplasia, vaporization of the prostate, bipolar transurethral vaporization of the
prostate in the treatment of benign prostatic hyperplasia.
