Abstract
Background: Pelvic tumors, especially malignant tumors, develop pressure and invasion of the ureters, causing obstruction of the upper urinary tract, affecting renal function and causing renal failure. Placing a JJ stent via cystoscopy is a less invasive technique that resolve the blockage, ensuring urine flow from the kidneys to the bladder, maintaining normal kidney function.
Objective: To evaluate the efficiency of JJ stent for ureteral blockage due to pelvic tumors.
Patients and methods: The study described 31 patients with upper urinary tract obstruction due to pelvic tumors and JJ stent insertion indicated at Hue Central Hospital from 01/2017 to 01/2018.
Results: Among the 31 patients, mean age was 50.4 ± 6.36, with hydronephrosis in 31 patients (100%), hydronephrosis on both sides accounted for 64.52%. There were 24 cases of retrograde endoscopic JJ stent insertion in both sides, 03 cases of endoscopic JJ stent insertion in one side, the other was by open surgery, two cases of open surgery ureteral placed JJ in the right side and 02 cases where JJ insertion failed then we make ureterostomy. Evaluation postoperative results and after 1 month, on the left side no patients with hydronephrosis degree II, III; On the right side there is only 1 case of hydronephrosis degree III. Conclusion: JJ stent helps reduce hydronephrosis and improves kidney function in cases of ureteral obstruction due to pelvic tumors.
