Abstract

Objective: Research clinical characteristics, endoscopic, the operative indication and complication after total gastrectomy in the gastric cancer.

Subject and Method: A prospective studyon 56 gastric cancer patients, were surgically the total gastrectomy by laparotomy from 1.2013 to 1.2017 at Digestive Surgical Department of Hue Central Hospital. All patients were examined clinically, endoscopic gastric, operative indication, postoperative complications.

Results: We had overalled 56 patients: 40 males and 16 females, the mean patient was 59.8 ± 10.8 years of age (38 - 84). The lesions were located in cardia 12.5%, gastric fundus 3.6%, gastric body 48.2%, antrum and body gastric 16.1%, plastic linitis 19.6%. The reconstruction technique used was the esophagus - jejunal anatomosis end to side Roux en Y in 55 patients (98,2%). The mean number of lymph nodes after D2 19.6 ± 4.3. The mean operative time 208.9 ± 9.9 minutes. The mean post - operative hospital stay was 12.3 ± 2.4 days. The early complication: esophagus - jejunal fistulas in two (3.6%), wound infection in three (5.4%), duodenal fistulas in one (1.8%), abdominal hemorrhage in one (1.8%), pulmonary infection in five (8.9%).

Conclusion: Total gastrectomy is a procedure of choice for treatment in gastric cancer patients. This study shows that total gastrectomy is a safe, feasible and effective.
