Abstract
Background: Hand, foot and mouth disease is a common infection in children with typical symptoms such as fever, mouth ulcers and blisters on the hands, feet, and buttocks. The disease is caused by the Enterovirus group. The research objective is describe the characteristics of the number of deaths due to hand, foot and mouth disease in An Giang children in 2023.
Methods: report on a series of deaths in An Giang children due to hand, foot and mouth disease, foot and mouth disease in An Giang in 2023.
Results: The average time from illness onset to death is 5 ± 2.2 days; with symptoms of fever (100%), startle - tremors (85,7%), mouth ulcers (57,1%), vomiting (57,1%)... 100% of deceased subjects had neurological symptoms, 71,4% delay in recognition of danger signs and decision to seek care, 42,9% delay in obtaining adequate and appropriate treatment.
Conclusions: Communication improves disease detection knowledge for caregivers, improves treatment knowledge for clinicians. Clinicians need to pay attention to counseling, care and treatment for children with warning signs of severe hand, foot and mouth disease.
