Abstract
Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome (ARDS) is a critical condition characterized by severe pulmonary inflammation and impaired gas exchange, often necessitating advanced ventilatory support. Effective ventilator management is pivotal in improving outcomes for ARDS patients. The primary ventilatory strategies include Low Tidal Volume Ventilation (LTVV), Positive End-Expiratory Pressure (PEEP), High-Frequency Oscillatory Ventilation (HFOV), prone positioning, and Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO). By synthesizing recent advancements and evidence this review provides a comprehensive overview of ventilatory management for ARDS in adults, aiming to enhance clinical practice and patient outcomes. It discusses the current evidence supporting these strategies, their implementation and emerging trends such as personalized ventilation and biomarker-guided therapies as well.
