Abstract
Objectives: To describe the reality of initial first-aid treatment for burns and to investigate some factors related to the right way to administer first-aid for burn victims.
Materials & Methods: A cross-sectional descriptive method with a sample size of 106 caregivers who did the first-aid treatment for burn victims before admitting at Burns Orthopedic Trauma Department, Nghe An Pediatric Hospital in 2019.
Result: There are 58.6% of victims who was correct in first-aid treatment: First aid for heat burns accounted for 43.4%, first-aid for acid burns accounted for 5.7%, the remaining was first-aid for base burns and electric burns at 3.8% and 5.7%, respectively. The correct first-aid treatment for burns has a statistically significant relationship with education level of research subjects (p < 0.05). No significant relationship was found between gender and the correct first-aid treatment for burns.
Conclusion: The incidence of incorrect first-aid treatment for burn victims is still high and the related factor is the education level of research subjects, We found no connection between the correct first-aid treatment for burns and gender. Everyone, especially health workers should be concerned about the initial first-aid treatment for burns for burn victims to improve the quality of care and treatment
