Abstract

Objectives: Flail chest is a rare but severe medical condition in closed chest injury, with high mortality rate, causing many difficulties for clinician. This research aims to validate the result of flail chest treatment by using continuously suturing and stabilization technique.

Method: Retrospective study about 21 traumatic patients with flail chest injury.

Result: Time of patients with external support was 8,2 ± 3,2 (group using percutaneous method). Patients with external support group using ventilators had less time in bed compared to internal support group (p=0,053). The early results of treatment consists of 95,3% good, 4,7% bad.

Conclusion: Flail chest treatment using percutaneous method is a good, high safety technique with good results, which can be applied widely and bring better results compared to using ventilators.
